Welcome from Mairi Gougeon MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Land Reform and Islands

Scotland’s National Strategy to grow the value and scale of Scotland’s agritourism sector was launched in November 2021, with ambitious targets set to grow the value and profitability of agritourism by 2030, both from existing businesses and new entrants. Agritourism is not new in Scotland, but we believe we can build on decades of quality farm hospitality and food experiences to generate an even larger impact on the rural economy. I am proud to Co-Chair the National Strategy Board alongside Caroline Millar, Sector Lead for Agritourism. The board brings together the private sector represented by Scottish Agritourism with the Scottish Government and a range of agencies who are supporting strategy targets in different ways. One of our main strengths is the network of agritourism and farm retail businesses across Scotland and the quality and diversity of their offering. Scotland is keen to share best practice and experiences with delegates from around the world and to showcase not only agritourism but our agriculture, food and drink and tourism sectors. It is great to see that Scotland is at the heart of international agritourism development via the Global Agritourism Network, and the Scottish economy as well as our farms, crofts and estates will continue to benefit extensively from knowledge exchange through these connections. I know that many people intending to come to the conference plan to extend their stay by undertaking an organised tour or a holiday with family or friends. I wish all the delegates visiting Scotland a fantastic experience. Enjoy our food and drink, hospitality, culture and landscapes.
